Common name East African Black Mud Turtle
Distribution Eastern and southeastern Africa, Madagascar, and the Seychelles Islands; introduced to Gloriosa Island, Mauritius Island (possibly now extirpated), and Diego Garcia, Chagos Archipelago (Bour, 1984d)
Comments Originally described by Lacepède (1788:15), but that work was made unavailable by ICZN Opinion 1463 (1987). Reviewed by Broadley (1981b), Bour (1983), and Boycott and Bourquin (1988).
