- Type comment: designated by Agassiz (1857:434; see also Brown 1908:114), but because it is a nomen dubium, Smith and Smith (1979:434-438) proposed that the ICZN designate Emys troosti Holbrook (1836:55) as the type species. Comment: See Comment under Chrysemys. Removed from the synonymy of Pseudemys (and Chrysemys) by Seidel and Smith (1986). Taxonomy of the West Indian forms is discussed by Seidel and Adkins (1987) and Seidel (1988).
