- Subgenus Stigmochelys according to Bour (1984c). Reviewed by Loveridge and Williams (1957), Boycott and Bourquin (1985), and Broadley (in Swingland and Klemens, 1989); Greig and Burdett (1976) suggested that the subspecies may not be valid.
