Syntypes
(2 specimens) USNM 8808; the skull of one of the syntypes was removed and apparently catalogued as USNM 29526 (e.g., see King and Burke 1989:55); however, a note in the type catalog suggests that Fred Cagle identified that skull as G. oculifera; Cochran 1961:231 and Lovich 1985 recorded both USNM 8808 and USNM 29526 as the syntypes; however, the dry skull has now been recatalogued as USNM 252600 and should not be considered syntypical according to George Zug pers. comm.
